Returning to Collingwood as a featured guest with ChoralWorks for the 3rd time this warm and charming Canadian baritone is abundantly talented with a natural affinity for stage work. Always the entertainer, Douglas has performed numerous roles with Opera York, Opera Mississauga, Brampton Lyric Opera, Opera Kitchener, Toronto Operetta Theater, Scarborough Gilbert and Sullivan Society, WaveStage Theater and others. Opera Canada has described his performances as ‘scene stealing’ and the Ontario Arts Review wrote ‘The rich baritone voice of Douglas Tranquada was almost overshadowed by his arrogantly strutting before and among his audience as he gave one outstanding rendition of the ‘Largo al factotum’. He was able to perform this as a special guest at the Holders Season Arts Festival in Barbados in March of 2011. Included in his many opera roles are title roles in Don Giovanni, Gianni Schicchi, Rigoletto and Figaro in The Barber of Seville. In 2017, he performed Requiems by Faure and Mozart, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and one of his signature character roles – the Sacristan in Tosca – with Opera York and Southern Ontario Lyric Opera. He also played Sir Sam Sillery in the Tryptych production of HMS Parliament. He was honored to perform the anthems in the 2016 NBA All Star weekend, the World Junior Hockey Tournament and has travelled to Italy as an Associate Director of a 40-person choral ensemble. Mr. Tranquada is a regular performer of national anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays, Raptors905, Toronto FC, Toronto Argonauts and Toronto Marlies and has directed church choirs in Toronto, Mississauga and Richmond.
